Many firms use survey apps and report software, CostX or Bluebeam for take-offs, and Excel for cost plans. AI features are arriving in take-off tools. Business accounts of ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot help with narrative and letters.

A building surveying firm that clears its report backlog
A firm of five surveyors carries out about 40 Level 3 surveys a month. Each report takes most of a day to write after the visit.

Shadow AI
Surveyors often dictate into consumer apps on site. Agree an approved app for notes and photos so client property data does not end up in unknown tools.
Keeping data safe
Use business or enterprise AI accounts with model training turned off and a data processing agreement signed. Survey reports include home addresses and photos of private property, so treat them as personal data.
